Spam-man attacks!
filed in Things That Make Me Mad on Jun.05, 2008
Last I checked, this was 2008. We have rocket ships, iPods, shoes with wheels and a black man
running for president. We’re supposed to be technologically advanced.
No! Two spam comments broke through my Akismet filter yesterday. One was from a fine fellow named “Telecharger evereste poker” (probably a foreigner with a name like that). The second was graciously submitted by Mr. “Www Super Casino”. Strange-sounding names, I must confess, but anyone might mistake them for rug salesmen or maybe sergeants.
The body of the first comment was written very eloquently, and went something like: “Come online spielbank poker gratuites sur internet jouer poker ligne table de poker en ligne baccarat online spiele… “
What? Did Mr. Telecharger just call me a Gratuitous Sur Internet Jouer? It must have been a mistake in translation.
I can excuse the terrible grammar, phony names and homepage listed as simply “url”. But the fact that both comments revolve around gambling is clear evidence that the Akismet spam filter is a load of crock.

Now, now… my Akismet filters out comments from people who are pinging back to my blog. So maybe it’s just PMSing.
Or having a senior moment.

Well as much as i could see why this would annoy you, this is why akismet asks you to approve comments before they are shown anyway. it is still a system that is learning from its mistakes.

What’s strange is that Akismet did NOT ask to approve these comments. They were on the front of my site for a day before I noticed them. Akismet is worthless.
